The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Colombaio is a little slow to open at first. In fact, I'm not sure my sample ever fully opened, so it might just be a question of giving the wine an extra year or two of bottle age. The wine presents mild intensity in terms of mouthfeel, with fresh acidity and a thin to mid-weight textural approach that, at this early stage at least, could work well with a creamy vegetable or pork pasta.
Bright oranges, earth, heather, violets, bracken, tar and sandalwood make for a very compelling nose. Full-bodied and compressed on the palate with grainy, grippy tannins and loads of zesty, enticing red fruit. Medium-long on the finish.
