Trediberri

Trediberri is a young winery in Piemonte. However, In just 15 years of existence, the estate has built up a solid reputation in La Morra and acquired some of the most sought-after vineyard plots in Barolo.

The name speaks for itself: ‘Tre’ means three, ‘di’ means from, and ‘Berri’ means village. In 2007, three partners, Federico Oberto, his son Nicola, and the Turin-based banker Vladimiro Rambaldi, purchased 5 hectares in the Crù Berry on the western outskirts of La Morra. Federico had worked side by side with Renato Ratti, one of Barolo’s most influential producers, for decades, from 1970 until Ratti’s death in 1988. The family also acquired existing plots in Rocca dell’Annunziata and Torriolone. The first wine was released in 2011. The day-to-day management of the estate is currently handled by Nicola Oberto together with his partner Stefania Droccco.

Vineyards

Today, the estate cultivates a total of 10.5 hectares: 5 hectares in Berry, 2.8 hectares in Rocca dell’Annunziata and Torriglione, as well as around 3 hectares of leased land in Bastia Mondovi and Clavesana in the southern part of the Langhe, near the Alps, where Dolcetto and Nebbiolo are grown. The Berry vineyard is situated at an altitude of between 370 and 430 metres above sea level on the westernmost edge of the Barolo zone. Rocche dell’Annunziata, another of the family’s key plots, is one of La Morra’s most historic vineyards; it is mentioned as early as 1194, when it belonged to the Benedictine Abbey of San Martino.

Grape varieties

Nebbiolo is the heart of the estate; it is used to produce both Barolo and Langhe Nebbiolo. The wider range also includes Barbera, Dolcetto and Sauvignon Blanc.

Winemaking

The estate’s approach is flexible and tailored to each specific vintage. Fermentation and ageing take place in concrete tanks, oak barrels and stainless-steel vats, depending on the needs of each vintage rather than following a fixed formula. The style aims for elegance and freshness rather than heaviness; Nicola describes the Barolo Berri, in particular, as a wine made to be enjoyed immediately rather than for long-term ageing, although it also ages well.

Wines

The range is centred on three Barolo wines:

- Berri is the most accessible, with bright fruitiness and freshness, produced from the estate’s original 5-hectare vineyard.

- Rocche dell’Annunciata is the flagship wine, which Nicola describes as ‘the heart of our winery’; it aims for the classic La Morra profile, characterised by aroma, elegance and structure.

- Torriolone is the third vineyard from which Barolo is produced.

Alongside these, the estate produces ‘Langhe Nebbiolo’, ‘Barbera d’Alba’, ‘Dolcetto’ and ‘Langhe Sauvignon Blanc’, rounding out a range that reflects the full character of the western Langhe, created by a family-run business that is developing at a remarkable pace.
