Andre Goichot
Maison André Goichot, located on Avenue Charles de Gaulle in Beaune, is a family-run wine merchant that has been working with Burgundy winemakers since 1947. It operates both as a merchant, selecting and ageing wines from across the region, and as a winemaker, owning three estates of its own. Today, now in its third generation, the company covers the whole of Burgundy from Chablis to Mâcon.
History
The house was founded in 1947, and its business was built on André Gossot’s personal relationships with Burgundy winemakers across the region. The first bottlings under the house’s own label began in the early 1990s; prior to that, the wines were sold in bulk. In 2000, the company moved to its current base in Beaune.
Today, the business is run by the third generation. The house also owns three separate estates: Château de la Guiche in Montagnier, acquired in 1979; Domaine des Guignottes, added in 2015 with 10 hectares in Montagnier, Montagnier Premier Cru and Santenay; and Château du Cray. The total area of owned vineyards exceeds 35 hectares.
Vineyards and grape varieties
The domaine’s own vineyards are located in Côte de Chalon, including Mercurey, Montagny and Montagny 1er cru, as well as in the Côte de Beaune with vineyards in Santenay and Maranges. As a wine merchant, the house buys grapes from growers in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte de Chalonnes. Among the grape varieties purchased, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay predominate, along with Aligoté and Gamay.
Winemaking and wines
The wines are selected from the winegrowers, then aged, bottled and distributed by the house. Each generation continues to refine this selection process and the house’s style.
The range is extensive, covering more than 60 appellations from Petit Chablis and Chablis Grand Cru in the north, through the village wines and Premier Cru from the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, including Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Bonnes, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, right through to the Côte Chalonnaise appellations Mercurey, Rully, Givry and Montagnies, as well as Mâconnais.
The range includes such grands crus as Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de la Roche, Clos Vougeot, Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. In Beaune, the Côté Caves wine shop has opened next to the Congress Centre.
