Robert Parker (97)

The Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2021 Barolo Villero (with fruit from Castiglione Falletto) has an ashy or mineral layer that follows to blackcurrant and dried cherry. That elegant mineral note is what distinguishes this extremely vertical, razor-sharp Nebbiolo. Medium-plus texture follows through with good power on the palate thanks to the precision and firmness of the tannins.

James Suckling (95)

Restrained and very floral, this Barolo unfolds in the glass, showing violet, rhubarb, cinnamon, dried orange and red currant aromas. The attack is large, with a full body, refined ripe tannins and thick, firm yet ripe and refreshing acidity. Overall it’s charmingly austere.

Jancis Robinson (17)

Castiglione Falletto. The first vintage of this wine was 2019. Spontaneous fermentation in tronconic casks. Almost two months on the skins (cappello sommerso, or submerged cap). Aged for 19 months in oak followed by at least 12 months in bottle. Cask sample.
Pale, youthful ruby. A little sweetly spiced but more complex than it sounds. Just a hint of gingerbread. Sappy and almost a little racy, while the acidity is embedded in concentrated raspberry. With aeration, minerally, chalky notes emerge. Lots of gravelly tannins making their presence felt on the finish. Very long and deeply structured and in need of more time. (WS)
