Robert Parker (96)

The G.D. Vajra 2022 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is a wine I always look forward to tasting for its graceful, often translucent presentation. In this warmer vintage, it shows added richness and concentration while remaining true to its floral character. Rose and violet lead the bouquet, followed by tar, crushed stone and sweet cherry. Bricco delle Viole is one of the highest vineyard sites in Barolo, where cooler air currents and significant diurnal shifts help preserve aromatic lift and finesse even in hot years. A lingering sweetness carries through the mouthfeel, where the wine offers silky, more-resolved tannins.

James Suckling (96)

A very absorbing nose, showing flowers, passion fruit, sandalwood and crunchy red berries. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with a detailed, precise tannin structure and tender fruit, finishing firm and focused. From one of the higher-altitude crus in Barolo. This needs two to three years to soften. Better from 2029.

Barolo. Certified organic (Valoritalia).
Just mid ruby. Balsamic and sweetly perfumed, with a suggestion of cinnamon bark, liquorice and iron, while the fruit is still a little subdued. Fresh sour-cherry and cranberry fruit, with lush acidity and finely ground tannins. Really opens up on the finish with plenty of fruit. Walter Speller

Vinous (92)

The 2022 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is impenetrable today. Dried cherry fruit, mint, chalk, dried herbs and white pepper lend notable salivating energy. The 2022 feels compact and unyielding, both within the context of this wine (which is always more about linear intensity than size) and the year. Perhaps time will be of some help in softening the contours.

Raffaele Vecchione (95)

Linear and composed with a good personality, Bricco delle Viole in 2022 displays notes of elegant white flowers, gardenias, magnolias, and hawthorn, along with currants, raspberries, and pomegranate. Numerous nuances of sweet caramel enliven the secondary notes. Full-bodied, perfectly ripe and fine-grained tannins, noble on the palate, slowly give way to a harmonious and persuasive finish. How beautiful. Better from 2027.
