Ampodium is de Côte Rôtie van Rostaing, een pure Syrah uit de Noordelijke Rhône.
Het jaar 2019 was een zinderend heet jaar in de Rhône-regio, en in september werden er zelfs zo ver zuidelijk als Gigondas door de zon verschroeide druiven gemeld. In deze wijn komt die hitte tot uiting in de rijpheid van het fruit in plaats van in zwaarte.
De gisting vindt plaats met natuurlijke gist, waarbij zoveel mogelijk steeltjes worden behouden (hele trossen, die de wijn levendigheid en structuur geven). Na vier weken rijping in tanks rijpt de wijn 18 maanden in een mix van vaten van 225 en 500 liter, waarbij nieuw eikenhout slechts ongeveer 7% van het totaal uitmaakt. Dankzij het lage aandeel nieuw eikenhout staan de fruitaroma’s centraal.
De wijn is nu klaar om gedronken te worden en komt het best tot zijn recht tot en met 2034.

An opulent, rich vintage of this cuvée, the 2019 Cote Rotie Ampodium still offers up nicely detailed, intricate floral notes layered atop raspberries and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, it's velvety and lush, with plenty of length on the finish. It should drink well for more than a decade.

Gently steeped cherry and plum notes form the core in this red, while light floral, white pepper and red licorice accents fill in along the edges. A long, subtle sanguine thread stitches up the savory finish.

Cask sample, tasted at the domaine. Elegant and smoked peat nose, vivid and floral. Superb richness and elegance and defined rounded tannins – concentrated fruit and with excellent fresh acidity. Deep violet color. Ripe blackberry and cherry on the floral- and spice-accented nose. Shows fine definition and appealing sweetness on the palate, offering juicy dark fruit and floral pastille flavors and a peppery overtone. Closes long and lively, with repeating cherry and spice notes and even tannins that lend subtle grip.

Moving to the 2019s from bottle, the 2019 Côte Rôtie Ampodium offers lots of peppery herbs, flowers, bacon fat, and sweet black raspberry fruit in a medium to full-bodied, meaty, straight-up classic Côte Rôtie style. It’s well worth seeking out as a multi-bottle purchase, as it will offer loads of pleasure over the coming 15 years.
