The 2023 Montrachet Grand Cru comes from purchased must. It has a crisp nose with apple blossom, orange pith and light flinty aromas. This is moderate in complexity (the Bâtard has more personality). The palate is well balanced with the depth you expect from a Montrachet. It's slightly honeyed in texture with veins of stem ginger from start to finish that are quite pronounced on the aftertaste. It lingers nicely in the mouth. Afford this four to five years once in bottle.
Mid yellow. Fresh but ripe, even quite exotic with a lemon zest running through the middle. Very good, but meets the sunshine a little bit too evidently. The Montrachet may not quite match the weight and class of the Bâtard-Montrachet on today’s showing.
