In the bottle with the black label, the Fanti 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Le Macchiarelle presents a dark, brooding profile marked by burnt earth, scorched tones and pronounced oak-driven spice. The fruit is equally dark and concentrated, delivering the richness expected of a Riserva, though the overall impression is heavy and fully shaped by its hefty 15.5% alcohol. Drawn from a 2.5-hectare vineyard on galestro soils, the wine ages for 42 months in tonneaux followed by 18 months in bottle, a regimen that emphasizes power over finesse.
This is saturated with alluring cherry, raspberry, black currant and floral flavors, all shaded by balsamic elements of wild rosemary, thyme and menthol. Taut yet beautifully balanced and resonating with energy and a mineral underpinning, this red is long on the aftertaste, complex and compelling. Stylish and fresh.
A complex wine with bright aromas of red cherries, cherry pits, minerals, dried violets and oranges. Full-bodied, creamy and velvety on the palate, it shows firm, chalky yet ripe tannins, juiciness and a refreshing finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.
