This shows density and beauty in the integration of tannins and fruit. Medium-bodied with attractive blue fruit and a dark, earthy finish. Lightly salty. 50% merlot and 50% cabernet franc.

Jancis Robinson (16.50)

Purple-black colour. Dark fruit with a leafy floral note, the vegetal side of Cabernet Franc evident (in a positive way). Palate juicy, fresh and balanced, the tannins present but not heavy or imposing. Structured without being heavy-handed.

The 2025 Arômes de Pavie is gorgeous. A blend of 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc, Arômes offers a very good representation of the Grand Vin, on a smaller scale. Juicy dark red/purplish fruit, blood orange, menthol, licorice, new leather and dried herbs open first. There's quite a bit of tannin that needs to soften with élevage. Yields were just 18 hectoliters per hectare, perhaps too low, as berries were tiny and thick-skinned. That's something of a challenge for a wine meant to be enjoyed young, where aging is not on most consumers' minds. On the other hand, I have tasted older vintages of Arômes that prove it can age beautifully.

Deep purple-hued, the 2025 Arômes De Pavie has a gorgeous, Cabernet-like nose of red and black fruits, smoky tobacco, crushed stone, and chocolaty, truffly nuances. It's rich and powerful on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, flawless balance, and a great finish. You'd be excused for mistaking this for the grand vin of a few years ago, and it's more in the style of the classic Pavie than the Grand Vin in 2025.

Falstaff (95)

Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, subtle edge brightening. Nuances of cassis and black cherries, underlaid with fine blackberry confit, candied orange zest, inviting bouquet. Powerful, tightly meshed, fine nougat, ripe plums, supporting tannins, full-bodied finish, mineral, subtle extract sweetness on the finish, persistent, will benefit from bottle ageing.
