Robert Parker (95)

The G.D. Vajra 2022 Barolo Ravera, from fruit grown in the village of Novello, shows impressive depth and concentration with layers of soft fruit that build toward an intense, fruit-forward bouquet. Dark cherry, cassis, violet, white pepper and a delicate mineral note rise from the glass. Ravera is one of Barolo’s most important sites, where elevated vineyards and calcareous soils help preserve freshness, even as the area has faced increasingly warm growing seasons. The wine captures the resilience of Novello fruit, holding its shape and energy, even in a hot vintage.

James Suckling (95)

Tea, hibiscus, orange rind, sandalwood and dried flowers. Really aromatic and absorbing. Medium-bodied, with a transparent, ethereal sense of fruit and a backbone of tannins that gives definition all the way to the end. Unique balance, from the famed vineyard in Novello. Better from 2029.

Jancis Robinson (16.5)

Barolo. Certified organic (Valoritalia).
Just mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Notes of iron over sweetly aromatic cherry and hints of green garden herbs and sweet dark spice. Embryonic on the palate, with sour-cherry and cranberry notes and a thick layer of slightly drying tannins, but this will settle with further bottle age. Walter Speller

Vinous (92)

The 2022 Barolo Ravera is a powerful, tannic young wine. Dried cherry, chalk, mint, white pepper and dried herbs infuse the 2022 with tons of mineral and savory energy. This svelte, linear Barolo is a bruiser today. It will be interesting to see if the mid-palate fills out. At this stage, the 2022 is a touch compact and very tightly wound, but it is also nicely balanced for the vintage.

Raffaele Vecchione (94)

Extremely captivating on the palate, it displays grace and precision of execution with clear notes of elderflower, chamomile, hibiscus, marigold, hawthorn, and tiare flower. Intriguing nuances of plum and cherry characterize the background. Full body, lively tannins blend well into the wine, and a compressed finish that extends decisively into the finish. Beautiful right away, but better from 2028.
