Tasted at the estate and once again in my office, the 2020 Fico has a slightly aldehydic note that underlines the hot vintage in what is otherwise an extremely delicate and fragile wine. This is part of the Fico experience as a wine that yearns to faithfully record vintage and territory, even if it means slight imperfections. This vintage reveals a round and sensual texture with velvety notes that support lots of dried raspberry and cherry skin. The wine opens to a vibrant dark ruby color. There is transparency and honesty in this special wine. You can taste the spirit of discovery and experimentation that was the impetus for Fico in a vintage like this.
Lots of spices, bark, mushrooms and dried flowers. Dried earth, too. Full-bodied, yet so fresh and long, with super-refined tannins that melt into the wine. Creamy, beautiful and rich. Vibrant and impressive on the finish. No sulfites added. Drink or hold.
