Here too there is just enough wood to notice framing the notably ripe aromas of poached plum, spicy black cherry liqueur and kirsch. There is good verve and freshness on the palate of the acceptably concentrated flavors that display evident minerality on the lingering if again slightly grippy finish. This too may well better harmonize if given a chance.
The 2023 Volnay 1er Cru is still made just from the young vines of Taillepieds – whereas 2024 will be Clos de la Chapelle new plantings. Not racked yet. A fair density of purple, and the fruit suggests energy but is not yet fully open for business. First picked. It has some of the character of Taillepieds but not yet the poise or length. Even so, nicely put together and fresh enough.
