Robert Parker (95)
La Mouline (94-96)
Notes of iris, oak, ripe dark berries and spices intertwined with an oaky character preface the 2022 Cote Rotie La Mouline, a blend of 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier. Full-bodied, dense and suave, it's enveloping and concentrated. With a rich chassis of tannins and a muscular yet sappy structure, it concludes with a long, oaky and spicy finish. Compared to its counterparts, La Mouline is always more enveloping and charming when young; this vintage is no exception.
La Turque (94-96)
Crafted from a one-hectare parcel on iron oxide and clay soils, the 2022 Cote Rotie La Turque presents a reserved yet characteristically somber profile, revealing aromas of spices, licorice, pencil lead, oak and spices mingled with gingerbread. Full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, it's structured with a layered, dense, almost compact core of fruit and concludes with a brooding, firm and long finish, though the oak notes are somewhat prominent. Given its sunny terroir and extended barrel maturation process, La Turque typically requires over a decade or two of aging to develop its full potential.
La Reynarde (95-97)
The debutant 2022 Cote Rotie La Reynarde is a standout in Guigal’s collection and notably less oaky than its counterparts. It's crafted entirely from massal selection Syrah grown on a 1.6-hectare plateau in the Fongeant sector, where the soil is a mix of granite, schist and iron-rich clay. Offering up a complex and engaging bouquet of dark wild berries, iris, lilac, spices and a hint of cinnamon, it’s full-bodied and well-structured, boasting a dense tannic chassis, vibrant animating acids and a long, ethereal finish characterized by unusual chalky grip. With a unique identity within the range, this cuvée will benefit significantly from 4-5 years of cellaring after release and has the potential to reach its 30th anniversary in fine form. A remarkable first release, indeed!
La Landonne (93-96)
The 2022 Cote Rotie La Landonne bursts from the glass with brooding aromas of coffee, oak and toast mingled with notes of blood and iron. Full-bodied, concentrated and ripe—bordering on overripe— it has a rich chassis of structured tannins, a long, linear texture and a vibrant, powerful finish enhanced by notes of tobacco leaves and oak. Rather austere and introverted at this stage, it will require time to mellow and allow the dominant oak notes to integrate fully.

La Mouline (94-96)
Pronounced intensity of raspberry, black cherry, Bourbon vanilla, crushed violets, blossom and cedar introduce the 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Mouline. Medium-bodied and refreshing, the 2022 is shaping up to be a classic La Mouline with energy and finesse. Firmly structured and perfectly balanced, it finishes with excellent drive on the complex finish.
La Turque (95-98)
The magnificent 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Turque wafts up with espresso, blackcurrant, black cherry, pencil shavings, crushed violets and wood smoke. Dark and brooding, this is a remarkably charming La Turque, much more so than the muscular 2019 or 2020. Nonetheless, the 2022 La Turque is framed by an intricate tannic web and marked by elevated flavor concentration, ending with ample persistence on the complex finish.
La Reynarde (95-97)
The inaugural 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Reynarde unfurls with intense espresso, blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, crushed violets, graphite and cedar. Medium-bodied and concentrated, it strikes a perfect balance between elevated flavor concentration and matching freshness. Structured and round, the La Reynarde is a terrific addition to what is now called the “La-La-La-La: family. Speaking of family, this new wine is a tribute to Philippe Guigal’s two sons–Etienne and Charles were both born in 2010, the same year when the clearance for planting and construction in the new vineyard began.
La Landonne (95-98)
The fabulous 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne unwinds with boatloads of ripe black fruits, graphite, mocha, wood smoke and a pinch of vanilla. Bold and generous, its massive tannic structure will require plenty of patience in the cellar. At this stage, I do not see the 2022 reaching the stratospheric heights of the magical 2020, but if all comes together as it should, the 2022 should prove to be a rock solid La Landonne with a long life ahead.

La Mouline (97-100)
Black raspberries, wildflowers, and bacon fat emerge from the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Mouline, which has an exotic yet dark, rich, and powerful profile. Based on 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier and aged 42 months in new oak, it has plenty of mid-palate depth, full-bodied richness, and ripe tannins, all while maintaining classic La Mouline character and sexiness.
La Turque (96-98)
Darker and more inward, cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and liquid violets define the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Turque, and it picks up more gamey, smoky, black olive notes with air. Made from 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier and aged 42 months in new oak, it shows a more structured, focused profile than La Mouline, with full-bodied richness, impressive concentration, and a great finish.
La Reynarde (96-98)
The first vintage for this cuvée, the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Reynarde comes from the Fongeant lieu-dit, which sits just above the Côte Brune. It's not destemmed and was vinified using only punch downs (similar to La Turque) and sees the same 4 years in new barrels as the other single-vintage releases. Loads of blackberries, currants, smoked meats, crushed stone, and graphite characterize the aromatics, with black olive and iron notes emerging with air. It has a rich, full-bodied profile on the palate with a beautiful texture and ripe, polished tannins. It clearly earns its spot in the lineup and is a brilliant, structured, age-worthy Côte Rôtie in the making.
La Landonne (97-100)
Another level of complexity emerges from the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Landonne, offering blackberries, currants, wood smoke, cured meats, and leather-like nuances This powerful, concentrated, straight-up massive Côte Rôtie (100% Syrah) was aged 42 months in new oak and shows classic La Landonne character, with beautiful depth and richness, as well as building tannins. There's some of the accessibility of the vintage here, yet this is nevertheless going to require a solid decade of cellaring.
