Cask sample. Mid ruby. Red and black fruits on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with good concentration and salty mineral finish. Moderate, fresh acidity. Very early for this youthful expression of Échezeaux Grand Cru. (MH)
The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a crisp and mineral bouquet, with blackcurrant, wild strawberry fruit and a touch of chalk dust developing in the glass. This has superb delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. It's a tensile Echézeaux, surfeit with mineralité, leading to a cohesive and persistent finish that exudes class. This is one of the best wines you will find from the Grand Cru.
Moderate though not invasive wood can be found on the overtly spicy and exotic nose of red and dark currant, kirsch, tea and a plenitude of floral elements. The middle weight flavors are not especially concentrated though they are quite fine, and quite finely detailed, while boasting a seductive texture that carries over to the superbly long and beautifully balanced finale. While qualitatively similar to the Clos de Vougeot, these are two very different wines.
One of the lighter red crimson colours, a red fruit nose, some strawberry, though not saline in the mouth until the very end, plenty of fruit filling the mouth, perhaps less delicacy and detail.
