The 2004 growing season in the Côte de Nuits was cool and harsh. It was a year in which everything depended on the summer work in the vineyards. Producers who carefully selected the grapes and waited for them to reach full ripeness created a typical Burgundian wine with medium body, pronounced acidity, and a clean, crisp flavor. The 2004 Chambertin from Domaine Tortochot vividly reflects these characteristics. Within the Chambertin range, it is one of the more reserved wines, characterized not so much by brightness as by depth of flavor, and possessing a structure that allows it to age like a Grand Cru. This vintage was one of the earliest for Chantal Michel-Tortochot, who had been managing the domaine since the late 1990s. Compared to highly mature vintages such as 2005 and 2009, the 2004 vintage exhibits a more restrained and transparent style. This wine can be enjoyed until 2036.
