Domaine Prieure Roch
Domaine Prieure Roch was founded in 1988 by Henry-Frédéric Roch. He was one of the very first winegrowers in Burgundy to use organic farming methods. This was very unusual for that time. In 2010, Henry met his partner, Yannick Champ. Now they run the winery together. The logo is made up of Egyptian hieroglyphs. The eyes on the label refer to the supernatural powers of the Earth. The red dots reflect the grapes and the green leaf represents the cycle of the vine.
The plots have a total surface of fourteen hectares and are spread over different appellations in Burgundy. Most of the vines are planted in Nuits-Saint-Georges in the premier cru vineyards of Clos des Argillières and Clos des Corvées. The vineyards are cultivated naturally, in order to extend the life of each plot and to find a balance between the vine and its natural environment. The yield per hectare is quite low, on average around 25 hl/ha. This low yield ensures high-quality wines with well-concentrated aromas.
The whole grape clusters are fermented, including the stems. Due to the strict selection in the vineyard, only bunches with fully ripe stems are used. The fermentation is started by native yeasts, which are naturally found on the skin of the grape. After fermentation, the wines are aged in French oak barrels. The village wines mature for an average of 18 months in barrel and the grand cru wines for an average of 24 months. The wines are layered and complex, with lots of fruit aromas and concentrated use of wood.
The best vintages of Domaine Prieure Roch are: 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
