The latest rendition of Cazals' NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Carte Or was disgorged in June 2019 with eight grams per liter dosage, and it's showing well, offering up aromas of ripe citrus, toasted brioche, white flowers and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, it's fleshy, lively and energetic, with good depth at the core, a fine mousse and a nicely defined finish.
Chardonnay. So much more development than the Laithwaite's English wines shown alongside! Well bought and a decent price for a biscuity champagne from Le Mesnil. Underpriced in fact! VGV
Latest release:
Disgorged February 2025
Harvest: 2021 + 20% reserve wines
Dosage: 6 g/L Brut
100% Chardonnay. Aromas of baked pineapple cede to a delightful mousse on the palate, with gentle acidity propelling notes of butter biscuit, brioche and lemon cake. Inviting, and fairly long.
The entry-level effort from this estate, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Blanc De Blancs Carte Or needed air to show at its best and offers a rich, brioche, yeasty, orchard fruit style as well as a rich, textured, opulent style on the palate. It lacks the precision and purity of the other cuvees yet is terrific none the less. Tasted in 2018.
