Vieux-Chateau-Certan is quite successful in this vintage. The wine is dark ruby, with a rich, berry-like, slightly minty, oaky bouquet, plump, round, fat flavors, good, round, tannin content, and medium to full body. Like most Pomerols of 1983, it is slightly deficient in acidity, but it is round, generously flavored, and precocious.
Big, generous and concentrated, supple in texture underneath the firm tannins, with distinctive black cherry, vanilla and smoke aromas and flavors that hold their own against a strong background of wood.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 17/20 points.
