Robert Parker (95)

A gorgeous wine of grace, elegance, and power, this youthful 2000 will benefit from another five years of cellaring. It appears to have 25 more years of life ahead of it. A deep ruby/purple color is just beginning to lighten at the edges. The bouquet offers up scents of cedar wood, melted licorice, black currants, blackberries, caramel, and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, elegant, and pure with low acidity as well as formidable tannins in the long finish, the 2000 should rival vintages such as 2005, 2006, and 2009.

Winespectator (95)

This is real. Dark and brooding, with chocolate, game and berry aromas. Full-bodied and very silky, with refined tannins and a long, lingering finish. Winemaker Alexandre Thienpont crafts his wine like a fine watchmaker. The 2000 is refined, yet rich.

James Suckling (96)

Vibrant cassis on the nose with a balsamic, dried eucalyptus-leaf note (an indicator of the 20% cabernet franc), as well as cedar wood. Amazing depth, mixing mint, chocolate and eucalyptus. The attack is dense, with medium to full body and abundant licorice-candy flavors, silky tannins and mid-palate extraction. Yet, it’s full of grace and delicacy. Long, polished and warming finish. Just a little tight at the end.

Jancis Robinson (17.50)

Deep garnet with a ruby-to-orange rim. Very fresh, medium-intensity, fully mature nose that doesn’t immediately signal right bank. Tannins nicely molten, sweet and a little charry note on the end. Some warmth on the end. Medium persistence but it builds to something quite long and impressive. Tastes more alcoholic than some vintages.

Rene Gabriel (19)

Rene Gabriel rates this wine 19/20 points.
