The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is a strong performer this year and, along with the Chapelle-Chambertin, one of the obvious sleepers in the range. Offering up aromas of plums and berries mingled with orange zest, spices and potpourri, it's medium to full-bodied, suave and supple, with ripe tannins, a sweet core of fruit and a long finish.
The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very attractive bouquet with bright and vivacious strawberry, red cherry and cranberry fruit. Quite pure and well defined, this certainly shades the preceding Clos Vougeot. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a lovely rondeur, gaining weight toward a deftly spiced and persistent finish that is real class. One of the picks from Jadot this year, this Echézeaux is as good as you will find in 2023.
An exuberantly spicy nose of hoisin, exotic tea, star anise and cinnamon add lovely breadth to the predominantly red berry fruit scents. The rich, generous and moderately forward medium weight flavors exude a subtle minerality that seems to build on the impressively long finale where once again there is a touch of warmth.
