Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2000 is a red Saint-Julien from the Left Bank estate of the same name, which takes its name from the stony Second Growth vineyard. The 2000 growing season was far from smooth. It began with a winter-like start, followed by late flowering and the most severe outbreak of mildew in decades in Bordeaux, and then a cool, rainy, and overcast period in July. Toward the end of July, the situation completely reversed. Two months of warm, dry, and sunny weather followed, leading to near-drought conditions by August and complete dryness by September. The harvest officially began on the 20th of September, one day after approximately 3 inches of rain fell, and most wineries in the region had completed the harvest by the 10th of October.

As a result, wines with exceptional concentration emerged throughout the Médoc. Several châteaux recorded their highest-ever levels of tannins and extract that year. In the case of Ducru-Beaucaillou, this led to a Cabernet-driven Saint-Julien vintage with true depth rather than mere weight, and it is considered one of the estate's iconic vintages alongside 1982, 1996, and 2005. Even now, over two decades later, it still has a robust structure.
