Bursting with a fresh, clean and spicy nose, the 2022 Plat'bos Chenin Blanc offers notions of dusty citrus blossoms, white peach and Meyer lemon zest with a subtle hint of nuttiness. Medium-bodied, mineral driven and zesty on the palate, this is youthful and expressive with a kiss of phenolic bitterness. It will remain food friendly for years to come. Nicely done, I want more!

James Suckling (95)

This has a beautifully complex array of thyme, sliced apples, grapefruit, blanched almonds and lemon pith. Hints of nutmeg. Sleek, tight and very mineral, even a little restrained, with a medium body and a long and linear finish. Drink or hold.

Full bottle 1,335 g. Fifth vintage of wine from this vineyard right next to the Skaliekop vineyard on decomposed granite. Planted in 1981 on the Paardebosch farm, this vineyard contributes to both their main Chenin Blanc blend as well as to Aristargos and will continue to do so. They have been farming this vineyard since winter 2013 and it has been 'a pillar in our granite approach towards our white wines'. Grapes were harvested in the first part of February, being one of the earliest Chenin Blanc vineyards they work with, planted on a northern slope. Harvesting took place over two picking dates and both lots were fermented and aged separately. Plat’bos is part of the Old Vine Project. 1,772 bottles.
Deep straw and fine, tight, youthful Chenin with marked acidity. This should be set for a long life. Still very introvert. Straight into the cellar, please. (JR)

Vinous (93)

The 2022 Chenin Blanc Plat'bos, from vines planted in 1981, was picked in two passes through the vineyard and aged in used French barrels. The nose has scents of melted candle wax, powdered chalk, white flowers and yellow fruits, and a hint of white chocolate. The palate is very saline on the entry with fine depth and tension, the most citric of David & Nadia's whites with a touch of oyster shell and quince on the finish. Very saline, very marine-influenced, this should mature beautifully in bottle.
