Chateau Giscours

Covering 160 hectares, Château Giscours is one of Margaux's largest wine producers. The vineyard is planted with mainly Cabernet Sauvignon vines, followed by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Château Giscours is classified by the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification as a Troisièmes Crus wine.

Château Giscours produces five different types of wine. The first and most famous is the elegant Château Giscours, a powerful and blissful Margaux wine aged between 8 and 10 years. The second is La Sirène de Giscours, a selection of the most young wines. Le Haut-Médoc de Giscours is produced with grapes growing on the border between Haut-Médoc and Margaux. Château Duthil (Haut-Médoc) comes from vines growing in the Haut-Médoc district and the last one is Le Rosé de Giscours, which is produced using Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

The story of Château Giscours began in the 14th century, when the estate was home to a defensive tower. The first vines were planted around 1552 by Pierre de Lhomme, who eventually built a manor house on the estate that he called "Guyscoutz". In the years that followed, Château Giscours grew into a successful winery and changed hands several times. In the 19th century, Château Giscours was completely renovated by architect Eugene Bülher. The building became larger and more modern with a neoclassical character, including the well-known "Ferme Suzanne" building.

In 1952, Château Giscours was bought by Nicolas Tari, thanks to whom the winery continued to expand and become more successful. In 1995, Château Giscours was acquired by Erik Albada Jelgersma, who passed away in 2018 as a highly respected man. Jelgersma's daughter and two sons have been at the helm of Château Giscours since his death, successfully continuing the family history!

One of Château Giscours' most prized wines is the 2015 Château Giscours, a fruity and medium-bodied red wine with light notes of tannin.
