Aromas of flowers, spiced pears, candied lemons and brioche. Medium-bodied with a round and creamy texture. Soft and very pretty. 45% pinot noir, 35% pinot meunier and 20% chardonnay. 5.6g/L dosage. Two years on the lees.
Empty bottle 835 g. 45% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnay from vineyards across the Champagne region and made in partnership with Champagne Thiénot. First fermentation in stainless steel, 100% malolactic conversion. Second fermentation in bottle with lees-ageing for over 15 months before disgorgement. This wine was blended with reserve wines from 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 and was made under the supervision of Penfolds head winemaker Peter Gago and Nicolas Uriel, the Chef de Cave at Champagne Thiénot. Natural cork. TA 6.4 g/l, pH 3.1, RS 6.5 g/l. Vegan. Exclusive to Waitrose. Available in up to 200 shops.
Obviously much, much older than the Nyetimber Classic Cuvée, so arguably better value! Good mousse and energy. Pretty good wine actually! Tastes rather luxurious and possibly even underpriced. (JR)
