Richer and broader than Les Veroilles, the 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras mingles notes of cherries, plums and red berries with hints of exotic spices and potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's layered and textural, concluding with a long, discreetly carnal finish.
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has quite a stern nose, plenty of mineralité and terroir expression here, a mixture of red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly candied red fruit on the entry, brown spices, hints of liquorice towards the finish with fine persistence. Promising, though it needs to gain a little more weight.
An exuberantly spicy nose freely displays its cool and pretty aromas of plum, black cherry and violet. The moderately rich and impressively intense larger-scaled flavors possess excellent volume as well as an almost pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the markedly austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This could use more depth, but the Barthod Les Cras always seems to age extremely well.
A good even density of crimson. The nose suggests fair density but does not want to give detail. Solid and really quite fine on the palate, the most classical structure of all the cuvees, the wine that suggests it will need longest to come round. Racy finish, with fruit, tannins and acidity all in good balance.
