The 2023 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is beautiful, unwinding in the glass to reveal aromas of cherries, raspberries, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's fleshy and sensual, its pure core of fruit structured around powdery, melting tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, saline finish.
A more elegant, spicier and even more floral-suffused nose is composed by notes of both red and dark cherry and a whiff of exotic tea. The super-sleek, delineated and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors also possess a highly beguiling texture while displaying stunningly good length on the moderately austere, balanced and equally built-to-age finale. Sheer class.
A dense crimson purple. Fractionally reductive on the nose, rather firm as a result. Dark cherries on the palate, the reductive element continues. Harder to judge today. Slightly fuller and more cheerful at the finish, and this may yet grow further.
