The 2023 Fixin 1er Cru Les Hervelets is brilliant, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums and cherries mingled with hints of violet and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple, it's penetrating and perfumed. Readers will remember that of these adjacent premiers crus, Hervelets can be sold as Arvelets but not vice versa.

Cask sample. Mid ruby. Medium-bodied with good balance between the quite high, lively acidity and the fine, elegant tannins. (MH)
Vinous (94)
The 2023 Fixin Les Hervelets 1er Cru, taken from barrel, is quite opulent on the nose with scents of blueberry and violet instead of red fruit. It is very expressive in style and gains intensity with aeration. The palate is sweet on entry with satin-textured tannins and a core of confit-like red fruit counterbalanced by acidity. A deft touch of cracked black pepper enhances the finish. Why can't all Fixins be like this???
Burghound (92)
An exceptionally pretty, airy and quite spicy red berry fruit nose is complemented by racy, delicious and equally finely detailed flavors that are not especially dense either though they do offer fine length on the balanced finale that is just not quite as complex, at least not yet.
Jasper Morris (92)
Bright purple. Now includes the young vines from 2016, which with the generous crop of 2023 means 5.5 barrels. The fresh raspberry fruit is attractively glossy, with fine tannins and good natural acidity, meaning a very composed Fixin 1er Cru worth looking out for.
