Grapes in wines from Chambertin
The terroir of Chambertin wines
The thin chalky topsoil and well-drained limestone soils of Chambertin make it the perfect place to grow grapes. Higher elevations are drier and have less clay, which encourages deep vine roots. The grapes have a balance of sugar and acidity thanks to the continental environment of the Cote d'Or, which features warm summers and mild nights. Despite the dangers of hailstorms and frost, Chambertin wines continue to be of the highest calibre.
