Wines from Domaine Anne et Herve Sigaut

Domaine Anne et Herve Sigaut

In the heart of Chambolle-Musigny lies Domaine Sigaut, a family-owned winery now led by the fifth generation: the couple Anne and Hervé. This duo has been producing wines for many years, primarily recognized by dedicated Burgundy enthusiasts. However, due to continuous quality improvements, their wines have increasingly garnered attention. In 2022, Neil Martin from Vinous even described them as: "The Next Big Thing."

In 1977, Hervé inherited several vineyards from his grandmother Andrée. His father Maurice also owned vineyards, including the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Sentiers” Vieilles Vignes, which he planted himself. It wasn’t until 1990 that Hervé and Anne took over Maurice’s vineyards, expanding the estate to approximately seven hectares.

Most of Domaine Sigaut’s vineyards are located in Chambolle-Musigny and the nearby Morey-Saint-Denis. Additionally, since 1994, they’ve owned a plot in Puligny-Montrachet 'Les Enseignères,' situated just below the renowned Bâtard-Montrachet. The vines across all their plots are quite old, with some exceeding 40 years. Certain vineyards, such as Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Chatelôts” (55 years) and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Sentiers” Vieilles Vignes (70+ years, planted by Hervé’s father), boast even older vines. These deeply rooted old Pinot Noir vines optimally utilize the limestone soils, ensuring maximum terroir expression in the grapes.

From the moment they took over, Anne and Hervé worked tirelessly to improve the vineyards. They introduced organic practices and later transitioned to more biodynamic techniques. For example, they plow the vineyards using horses and work as naturally as possible, respecting the soil and biodiversity. They even follow the lunar calendar, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. In the cellar, only natural yeasts are used, and the wines are bottled unfiltered.

In 2004, Anne took over leadership from Hervé and crafted her first vintage of wines. Although Hervé officially retired in 2008, he remains actively involved in the estate. Driven by passion, they continually strive for improvement through innovation. In 2006, the winery underwent significant modernization, including installing stainless steel tanks in the floor to expel harmful carbon dioxide during fermentation. A new sorting table was introduced to better destem the fruit, and a gravity-fed system was implemented for filling wooden barrels. They use a maximum of 30% new oak in their wines, and the barrels are used for up to five years.

Anne and Hervé work tirelessly to produce the finest wines. Their craftsmanship and passion are evident in their wines: refined, elegant, delicate, yet also intensely concentrated. Their wines are among the finest expressions of the unique Burgundy terroir in Chambolle-Musigny. Not only are we impressed, but renowned wine critics have also written glowing reviews about Domaine Sigaut’s wines in recent years.
