The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a more outgoing and vigorous bouquet than the Bienvenues. It has more white than yellow fruit here, crushed stone and touches of wild mint/fennel emerging with time. The palate is very well balanced with a saline opening. It has good depth and is quite pithy and grippy toward the finish. There is an admirable gutsiness to this Bâtard that makes it a worthy follow-up to the splendid 2022.
A distinctly restrained nose only grudgingly reveals its combination of cool, pure and airy aromas of white orchard fruit, citrus rind and a similar array of floral notes, especially acacia. The bigger and richer, if less refined, medium weight plus flavors exude a subtle minerality on the superbly long and even more complex finale that is also tightly wound. Excellent potential here.
Pure fresh lemon yellow. The nose demonstrates significant weight over and above the Bienvenues. This is all in white fruit, massive, tightly wound, this has a potential over and above, and all white. A noble youthful bitterness.
