The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is a magical wine in the making, its youthfully reserved bouquet mingling aromas of citrus oil and wet stones with notions of warm bread and toasted sesame. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, with a deep and tight-knit core that's framed by racy acids and an abundance of chalky structuring dry extract, concluding with a long, searingly mineral finish. This is an exquisite rendition of Meursault's greatest vineyard by its greatest exponent.
The 2017 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has an intellectual bouquet featuring wet limestone, walnut, hazelnut and a puff of chalk dust, endowed with laser-like precision. The palate is beautifully balanced with wonderful salinity, mouthwatering acidity and a citric, intense finish that lingers for 60-plus seconds in the mouth. Awesome.
A super-fresh nose combines notes of mineral reduction, citrus, an array of floral nuances as well as lovely spice wisps. There is outstanding volume to the delicious, mouth coating and powerful larger-scaled flavors that also provide a contrast between the succulence of the mid-palate and the almost aggressively stony cuts-like-a-knife finish that goes on and on. As the description and rating confirm, this is a brilliant Perrières that should also amply reward long-term keeping. In sum, this is a bona fide 'wow' wine.
