The 2020 Fixin 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre (Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs) has turned out nicely, exhibiting aromas of cassis, plums and woodsmoke, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's bright and vibrant, with ripe tannins and a penetrating finish.
Black centre with purple rim. Jean-Nicolas finds this both upright and gourmand, a combination he likes. Flirts with 14% and stays on side. Super ripe cherries as part of the nose, kicks on really well on the palate with this high acidity which brings out the red fruit notes in fruit which otherwise wants to be richer. Long finish, and in the end the balance works well. Will need time. Tasted Dec 2021.
Ripe, dark cherry on the nose comes with the merest hint of liquorice. The palate adds finest dark chocolate to the mix but comes together in the purest display of fruit. Finest tannins support, freshness defines. Simply wonderful. Who would have thought that of Fixin? Wonderful.
