Vinous (92)
The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru shows an attractive bouquet of tertiary red fruit and a faint whiff of freshly-rolled tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and understated, with pliant tannins and a pure finish that has just the right amount of bitterness. This doesn’t share the length of the Méo-Camuzet, but it's a "grower". Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Burghound (92.50)
Ripe and appealingly fresh aromas are composed by sauvage and earth-inflected notes of mostly red and dark berries. Once again, the mouthfeel is really quite sleek as the rounded yet reasonably precise and energetic flavors possess a seductive texture, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, sappy and impressively persistent finale. This will need to develop better depth to merit the upper end of my projected range, but the potential certainly appears to be present.
Jasper Morris (95)
The two plots are picked and vinified separately, assembled when the wine is racked to tank. Fine bright purple, with a depth of fruit, almost an exuberance, which is really pleasing. Really delicious fruit weight, just the right acidity and excellent length. Just 25% whole bunches this year.
Decanter (94)
This Clos de Vougeot has fortified itself since I tasted it from the barrel. The wine has lost none of its perfumed, elegant plum and black cherry fruit with hints of rose petals, but there is more density and weight, and the tannic structure is more apparent. Initially, the wine seemed destined for early drinking, but now it appears it also has the substance to age.
