The David & Nadia 2023 Swartland Plat'bos Chenin Blanc is a tad more timid compared to the other wines in this group—it simply requires more time to open in the glass. Once it does, it reveals a citrusy character over a streamlined and tensile fruit texture. Those lemony flavors, delivered drop by drop, are framed by cumin seed, honey and crushed salt. This 1,526-bottle release will require a little more time to flesh out, but the quality is stunning.
A precise, driven and linear chenin blanc that has aromas and flavors of fennel, slate, lemon rind, coriander and some licorice. It’s medium-bodied, cool and direct, with lemony acidity. Pure. Fantastic concentration at only 11% alcohol. 1,500 bottles produced.
The 2023 Chenin Blanc Plat'bos comes from a single vineyard of 3.6-hectares on granite soils that the Sadies have farmed for 11 years. This site tends to be picked earlier due to its exposure. This has the best aromatics of the whites in this range: orange blossom, linseed oil and crushed stone coming through with time. There’s real energy here. The palate is deftly balanced with a sapid entry. Satsuma mixes with grapefruit and light spicy notes, with good persistency on the linear finish. This is as good as the previous vintage.
