The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Cuvée Quintessence has a lovely, finely delineated bouquet with mirabelle, jasmine and lemon curd scents that blossom in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a silver thread of acidity and the new oak (10%) knits everything together. It's focused with a touch of white peach on the finish. This is excellent.
A ripe and beautifully layered mix speaks of ripe aromas of pear and apple compote, white flower and crushed anise. The succulent and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors that possess a borderline oily texture that contrasts noticeably with the powerful, serious and austere finale that is also very much built-to-age.
From the Aloxe-Corton side. Light yellow, with an exceptional stony bouquet, but still indicating flesh to follow. Which there is. Medium length, still with a bit of punch, the Quintessence has not yet quite taken shape.
