The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is matured in 60% new oak. The fragrant bouquet has scents of white peach, freshly sliced pear, almond and hints of praline. The palate is lively on the entry with a keen thread of acidity. Not the most complex Corton-Charlemagne, but certainly one of the more elegant and precise, with a touch of orange zest and a twist of bitter lemon on the finish. Very fine.

This is also quite cool with a similar if spicier nose. By contrast, there is notably better volume to the more powerful, denser and bigger-bodied flavors that possess a lavishly rich, even opulent, mid-palate that tightens up on the focused, balanced and beautifully persistent finish. This is less youthfully austere than it usually is and a wine that could reasonably be approached after only 5 years. With that said, I underscore that it also has the potential to reward up to a decade of keeping.

Jasper Morris (95)

Lemon and lime colour. Some intensity, stones, citrus and some white fruit all together on the nose. Lifts very well at the finish, the oak is not quite married in, but that should happen. Certainly the flavours linger very well. This will repay patience.
