The 2016 Extra-Brut Haute Couture Le Mesnil/Oger is quite a bit more reticent than the 2017 tasted alongside it. There’s quite a bit of power and reserve in a Champagne that shows the more savory, earthy side of Mesnil. The oak imprint is also subtler than in the 2017. Aeration releases a captivating mélange of sage, mint and graphite to play off a core lemon confit and dried citrus fruit. The 2016 is beautifully done. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter.
