Saint-Chamant
The estate of Saint-Chamant was established by Pierre and Hélène Coquillette in 1930, and was taken over by their son, Christian Coquillette, in 1950. He created the brand, which covers 11.5 hectares of vineyards in Chouilly and Epernay. Christian's son, Stéphane Coquillette, set up his own brand in Chouilly, called Champagne Stéphane Coquillette.
The range of Saint-Chamant champagne includes Brut Integral Millésimé (without any added sugar dosage) and Cuvée de Chardonnay Millésimé. These Blanc de Blancs champagnes age exceptionally well and show notes of brioche and bread crust, while gaining refinement and complexity over time.
In 2020, unfortunately Christian Coquillette passed away and left the vineyards, as well as a large collection of the reserve champagne, to his son Stéphane. Although Stéphane had completely different views on how to make champagne, and this difference was the reason he started his own champagne, he kept his father’s way in honour. The wines are now released under the label of Saint-Chamant, which is done by Stéphane Coquillette.
The wines are classical with a lot of fruit, and due to a long time in the cellar they are released as ripe, full-bodied champagnes. The wines from Saint-Chamant stand for balance, complexity and a great contrast between ripe fruits and a delicate acidity.
