Sauzet

This domaine was established in the 1920’s by the late Etienne Sauzet (1903 – 1975) in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. It belongs to the top producers in the Côte de Beaune area in Burgundy and is recognized for the consistent quality of their wines.

The domaine owns approximately 10 Ha of vineyards (mainly planted with Chardonnay) in especially Puligny-Montrachet, including plots in Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (0.14 Ha) and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (0.17 Ha). Also important Puligny Montrachet 1er Crus such as “Les Combettes” (0.96 Ha), “Les Folatières” (0.27 Ha), “Les Champs Canet” (1 Ha), and “Les Referts” (0.70 Ha) are in their portfolio.

Furthermore, Domaine Etienne Sauzet also buys grapes from other family members and some friendly growers to complement their range of wines. Most notable are Le Montrachet Grand Cru and Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, so they actually make wine from all the Grands Crus from Puligny-Montrachet.

The vineyards which belong to the domaine have been farmed organically since 2006 and biodynamically since 2010. Also, the percentage of new oak has been reduced in recent years in favor of the fruit expression. Today, the domaine is run by Emilie Boudot (her father was the son in law of Etienne Sauzet together with her husband and wine maker Benoît Riffault.

The wines are characterized by its terroir, complexity, balance and are usually capable of long ageing. Top vintages for the wines produced by Domaine Etienne Sauzet are: 1989, 1990, 2002, 2005, 2010 and 2014, but other vintages are really enjoyable as well.
