A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip.
Fermented in 350-litre oak. Made from 2003 onwards. Two-thirds from Pernand (high and minerally) and one-third from Aloxe (upper slope in Les Languettes). Barrel sample.
Smoky and quite subtle on the nose but the oak gives that creamy/mealy lees invitation. Really tightly wound but with amazing power. Not as open as the Perrières but the centre of gravity is perfect. Powerful and elegant. Pierces your heart.
