This cuvée is always the most immediate of Barthod's premiers crus, and the 2021 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns is no exception. Bursting with aromas of sweet berries, cherries, plums, spices, orange zest and grilled squab, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a textural core of fruit, supple tannins and a gourmand, licorice-inflected finish.
Cask sample. Racy and lively and with lots more personality than the village wine in 2021. Dense and deep. (JR)
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru has an attractive nose, a mélange of red and black fruit, sous-bois, crushed stone and rose petals. It displays more vigour than the Chambolle-Charmes. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red cherry and strawberry fruit, desiccated orange peel and white pepper. Not complex yet it demonstrates more length than some of the other cuvées.
A hint of crushed leaf lurks in the background of the cool aromas of red and blue pinot fruit and discreet earth wisps. The succulent and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess a beguiling energy that also suffuses the balanced and lingering finish that could also use a bit more depth.
Greater depth of colour and bouquet, indeed a slightly meaty nose, with a definite sucrosity on the palate, a delicious deep red fruit, a light peppery note to finish, with excellent persistence. Interesting, complex wine.
