Chateau Rauzan Segla

Château Rauzan-Ségla was founded in 1661 by Pierre de Rauzan. The estate remained in the Rauzan family for several generations, gaining a reputation for producing exceptional wines. Notably, Thomas Jefferson was impressed by Rauzan-Ségla's wines during his visit to Bordeaux and ordered several crates. In the 1855 classification, Château Rauzan-Ségla was designated a Second Grand Cru Classé. It was even considered on par with Château Mouton Rothschild (then 2me cru).

After a period of decline, Château Rauzan-Ségla was acquired by Chanel in 1994, leading to a complete renovation of the property.

The vineyard covers an area of 45 hectares and is composed of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Harvest is done manually. Each vineyard is vinified separately. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (55% new).

The last 30 years Rauzan-Segla is increasingly better rated by professional Wine reviewers like James Suckling, Rene Gabriel and Robert Parker. Vintages after 2015 score 95+ points.

The wines can age gracefully and are long lasting. The 1929, 1934 and 1959 are still superb wines.
