In 2009, Bordeaux experienced a vintage that winemakers will be talking about for many decades to come. The weather was warm and sunny, and dry conditions prevailed during key periods. On the clay-rich plateau of Pomerol, where Pétrus is located, these conditions allowed the Merlot grapes to reach full ripeness without losing their freshness. That year’s blend also included a small amount of Cabernet Franc. This is the last vintage released by the château before it switched to a 100% Merlot blend in 2010. Compared to the relatively cool vintages of that period, this “Petrus” is expected to offer a richer and more opulent flavor. The wine can be enjoyed until 2040.
