A polished and in-check red with blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. It has a medium body, creamy and round tannins and a savory finish. Well done for this estate. Better than 2022.
43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 17% Petit Verdot. Cask sample.
The zesty, spicy edge of Petit Verdot evident on the nose. Juicy fruit on the palate, the tannins polished and fine. Gentle persistence on the finish. Should be good drinking (as opposed to investment) value. (JL)
For some inexplicable reason, the 2023 Angludet evaded my “capture” during the primeur tastings, and co-proprietor Daisy Sichel kindly dispatched a bottle to the UK. It has a very attractive bouquet and plenty of blackberry, cedar and crushed violet scents that gain blossom with aeration. Perhaps it is a little higher-toned than I anticipated, yet it retains commendable delineation. The palate is quintessential Margaux, well-balanced with vivacious black plum and raspberry fruit, with more blue fruit surfacing with aeration. Smooth-textured on the finish, this should drink well for 12 to 15 years, possibly more.
