Cask sample. Quite primary brambly fruit on the palate. Bit closed on the nose and a little reticent at the moment. Lots of structure here. Less overt 2022 ripe fruit than many but that will flesh out in time. Needs 2–3 years. (AWH)
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières has a tightly-knit, slightly tertiary nose with tobacco-tinged red fruit. Initially, it’s a little subdued but gradually finds its voice in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. A more structured and maybe austere take on the vintage - a serious Nuits Saint-Georges that should be rounded out by the new oak once blended.
One again there is enough reduction to knock down the nose at present. Reduction flattens the nose though there is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the equally mineral-suffused middleweight flavors that terminate in a compact, youthfully austere and lingering finish that displays only a trace of backend rusticity. This is also quite good.
A little deeper in ruby colour. A pleasing mid ripeness to the fruit, this Nuits Lavières is beautifully balanced, with a fine mineral crunch following the solid and persistent raspberry fruit. Fine length. Elegant for Nuits, yet with a well defined structure. Drink from 2028-2036.
