I did not have chance to re-taste the de Montille 2006 Volnay Les Mitans after its bottling (for which, by the way, the domaine now – like many others in Burgundy – professes to target "fruit periods" in Maria Thun's biodynamic calendar). Dried cherry, rose hip, bitter-sweet floral perfume, and brown spices inhabit the nose and a pungently concentrated though fairly light-weight palate. This lacks the caressing texture of the dramatically differently flavored (fungal, mineral, carnal) Champans, but delivers a finish with somewhat more concentration and thrust. I would feel free to plan on following it for half a dozen years. I did not, incidentally, taste 2006 de Montille Volnays from La Carelle or Les Brouillards.
