Another fine cuvée is the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas, a wine derived from the part of this lieux-dit classified at the communal level, where Roty observes his grapes are always especially thick skinned. Offering up aromas of cherries, raspberries, cassis and rose petals, framed by toast oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with the most depth and structure of Roty's three lieux-dits.
Medium deep dark crimson, quite a strict nose, for them a real keeper. Firm, powerful, very dark fruit with a crispness to the tannins at the back. Thick skinned grapes here. Not quite the depth of Champs Chenys though for me.
