The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin Vielles Vignes comes from several parcels and is raised in 30% new oak. It has another extremely pure bouquet, the new oak succinctly embroidered into the pure blackberry and raspberry fruit, the mineralité just lurking underneath. The palate has a candied note on the entry, a sweet core of red berry fruit pricked with hints of orange zest and it displays wonderful tension and vigour on the finish. This is outstanding for a village cru.
Relatively dark crimson. Very rich and dense ? more concentrated than most. Really thick almost! Such a very different style from the more transparent wines of, say, Fourrier. A slightly bitter note on the end.
