This 1999’s aggressive new oak seems excessive for the amount of depth and fruit it possesses. There is excellent purity as well as texture, but the oak dominates at present, causing the tannin to taste dry and astringent. Nevertheless, it has the potential to become an elegant, mid-sized St.-Julien to drink during its first decade of life.
Very pretty aromas of plums and raspberries follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a delicate, fruity finish.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 17/20 points.
