A sleeper of the vintage, the dense blue/purple-colored 2003 Lafon-Rochet exhibits plenty of blackberry, cassis and graphite along with a touch of toasty new oak. The wine is more backward than expected, but it possesses full-bodied, concentrated flavors as well as good elegance, purity, and overall equilibrium. This is a long-distance runner. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025
Decadent and rich with a meaty and ripe fruit aroma. Full, dense, and juicy, with round, velvety tannins, and a long finish. A big burly wine.
A spicy bouquet, revealing a strong sense of terroir, with notes of leather and Dominican tobacco. Firm on the palate, with a rather grainy extract, showing resilience. Not exactly crowd-pleasers, but paired with the right food, this is a remarkable Saint Estèphe.
